The food industry can be a competitive market. If you own a cafe, no doubt your coffee and baked goods are mouth-watering. Own a restaurant? Your horderves might look magazine-worthy. But if you don’t have the proper curb appeal, you could in fact be drawing customers away.

We know it can be a tough business, but we also know you can make a huge impact with customized awnings. A custom awning serves several purposes for restaurants including the following:

Protect customers - Awnings are important for your business, but they are even more crucial for your customers. One of the primary functions of an awning is to protect your customers from rain and shine, whether it be at the main entryway or above the outdoor patio The best part is that when you choose a custom awning, you can select the color, size, and fabric that works best for your restaurant.

Up your curb appeal - As we mentioned earlier, custom awnings have a way of attracting new customers on even the most subconscious level. Why? For one, colors play a primal factor, as certain colors generate one’s appetite. In addition, when you create a custom awning, you can display all the goods of your business, such as the company logo. This way, people will have a lasting impression of your restaurant’s name and brand image.

Define your location - Aside from making a lasting impression, custom awnings can also define the location of your restaurant (or cafe, etc.). You want to include your telephone number and address so that customers can jot down the information or embed in in their minds. That way, if they don’t have time to stop by on a whim, at least they know how to find you for next Friday's night out on the town.

Are you in the market for a custom awning for your local restaurant or corner cafe? If so, turn to Dean Custom Awnings. We will visit your business location to meet with you and discuss your design ideas, no matter how big or small! Winterize Your Awning

With winter on the horizon, you’re probably already making preparations around the home. You might have chopped some firewood, cleaned your gutters, and inspected your furnace. But have you prepared your awnings?

Most awnings can withstand the harsh winter weather, but you will first need to get them in top shape. Below are a few tips to help you winterize your awning:

Brush off leaves. If any leaves fall on your awnings, brush them off from the top edge, down towards the bottom.

Hose off dirt. Once you’ve cleared off the leaves, hose down your awnings to remove any dirt or debris. This method can also tackle stains.

Bring out the brush. If the hose doesn’t clean off those tough stains, use a soft-bristled brush instead.

Wash it. Wash your awnings with a little mild soap and warm water to get them looking spotless. Let them air dry all the way (especially if you have a retractable awning, as rolling up a damp awning can promote mold growth).

Retract your awning. Do you have a retractable awning? If so, retract it completely. If there’s any loose fabric hanging, there’s a likely chance that it can get damaged during winter.

Call for winter storage. To best preserve your awnings, ask about winter storage services to protect them all winter long until spring blooms again.

At Dean Custom Awnings, we take hundreds of awnings down in the fall, store them for the winter, and re-install when the weather warms up. To learn more about our services, visit us on the web or call us at (845) 425-1193.

How to Prep Your Outdoor Space for Cooler Weather

If you live in the northeast, you know just how brutal the winter can be. ending to your outdoor living space before the temperatures drop is crucial for protecting your home from all the snow, ice, and blustery winds.

Here are a few ways you can be proactive and prep your outdoor space before the winter arrives:

1. Store furniture. Outdoor swings and rocking chairs can get the wrath of heavy snowfalls and strong winds, so carrying important pieces of furniture indoors should be your first step. Many facilities offer storage for your outdoor furniture, but storing them in a shed or a large garage is your best bet.

2. Apply waterproof finish to deck for snow. When snow accumulates, it doesn’t usually evaporate overnight. In fact, it can stay there for weeks or even months before completely melting away. That being said, make sure you apply a waterproof finish to your deck to keep it from weathering.

3. Cover pool & BBQ. If you have a pool or BBQ in the backyard, don’t let debris ruin it! Covering up your pool can keep falling branches out of harm’s way and protect your BBQ from getting banged up.

4. Retract your awning. Do you have an awning over your back patio? If so, don’t forget to retract it before the thick of winter arrives.

Retractable awnings are the most convenient for those who live in a climate with four seasons. Why? Because they can protect your home from sun and rain in the spring, but are easy to retract in the winter when you need to keep them from getting damaged.

At Dean Custom Awnings, we offer retractable awnings at an affordable cost! For more information, visit us on the web or call us at (845) 525-1193. Awning Design Ideas for Business Owners

When it comes to business, the look and purpose of your awning says a lot about the message you’re sending to your customers. A great awning is not only decorative but it’s functional as well. So if you’re just jumping into the design process, here are a few ideas to consider for your business’ awning:

Logo. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, which couldn’t be any more true when it comes to business. Logos are one of the best ways to market your business because in a sense they represent your company’s name. In fact, any visuals you use for branding can help boost brand identity and sales.

Slogan. Aside from the basic information, why not add a slogan? After all, your slogan does help people to remember what your business is all about. This catch phrase of yours is a smart addition to your awning design because it's what makes you stand apart from the competition, offering your business more potential success.

Contact Info. Provide all the text needed to advertise your business - the name of your company, the phone number, the hours of operation. Do you also plan on highlighting specific personnel in your business? Lay it all out for your customers to see at first glance, that way your brand image will be clear.

Are you ready to get started on a new awning for your business? If so, please contact Dean Custom Awnings to schedule your appointment. We will meet with you and discuss your design ideas, no matter how big or small they are! And once that’s completed, we will bring your awning to life! Frame Styles for Your Outdoor Awning

If you’re getting ready to create a customized awning for your home or business, you might be feeling overwhelmed by all the options out there. The style that you choose for your new awning greatly depends on the functionality for which you will need. Once you know the purpose for your awning, use the following list of awning shapes to help you choose the best style:

Traditional. Traditional frames are typically used for sun protection, which can be ideal for installing over large areas like your back deck, patio, or porch.

Dome. Dome awnings are popular for small entryways in front of storefronts and offices. This is one of the best options for weather protection because of its sphere-like shape, which can not only shield you from the sun, but also from heavy rainfalls.

Gable. Gable awnings are perfect for rain due to their steep sloped shape. Whether you have an outdoor restaurant or a large backyard, these can protect a large crowd from bad weather (and sun of course).

Convex. Convex frames are a smart choice if the purpose of your awning is to provide protection and promote your business at the same time. They are long enough for you to create a custom graphic design and cover the entirety of your storefront or office building.

At Dean Custom Awnings, we offer a wide array of awning frame styles for your outdoor awning. Our experts will help you through every step of the process, from designing to installation. With locations in New York and Connecticut, we proudly serve the New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania region. How to Choose the Perfect Color Awning

// posted by Vic Santiago on Tuesday, October 20, 2015

Oct 20

Picking the perfect color for any home or business design element can be stressful. When it comes to a personalized awning, the color that you choose directly impacts the look of your home or business, so it’s important to select wisely. Luckily, there’s a lot of leeway with color, but asking yourself these three questions can help you make an informative decision:

1. What is the purpose of your awning?

Is this awning for your business or home? Commercial awnings are fairly different than residential awnings. An awning designed specifically for branding is designed with the intention of advertising a business and keeping customers protected. On the other hand, an awning created for the home is intended to help lower energy bills and provide safety from sun, rain, and other unexpected weather conditions.

2. What emotion do you want to convey?

Colors are an important part of the awning creation process, especially when it comes to branding because they directly affect your customers. Choosing the right color for your awning is one of the most essential parts of making your business successful, as not every color is the same. Below are a few colors to consider for your business and how they attract consumers.

  • Red - The color of excitement
  • Blue - A calming and cool color that represents trust
  • Yellow - A fun and confident color that often evokes hyper-specific emotions
  • Green - Used for a calming effect or an eco-friendly idea

3. What color are your exteriors?

Take a look at your building’s exterior. What color is it? When choosing a color for your awning, you want to compliment what you’re already working with. For example, if your building is white, you might want to choose a shade other than white, depending on the look you’re trying to achieve.

Are you ready for a customized awning fit for your home or business? At Dean Custom Awnings, we offer many styles and colors to help you create the perfect awning. We proudly serve the New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania region and will help you through every step of the awning creation process!
